How it all Started
How it all started
AWC-Reykjavik’s inception is nothing short of a miracle, given its emergence amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 lockdown. During this period, places of worship experienced erratic openings and closures, resulting in a lack of consistency in congregational gatherings—a fundamental aspect of our Christian faith. Hebrews 10:25 (AMPC) underscores the importance of believers assembling together: “Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together as believers, as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.” Consequently, many Christians either lost faith in God Almighty or wavered in their devotion to Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith.
However, my experience was different. It was during this trying time that I felt an intense calling from the Lord to serve Him, a conviction that grew heavier with every prayer session. Hebrews 12:26–27 spoke of God shaking the earth and the heavens, separating the the wheat and the chaff. God was testing His people: would they continue to worship Him when the doors of the churches were closed? Would their hunger for Him persist in the absence of social gatherings? He was shaking religion to preserve the spirit.
Simultaneously, I was pursuing a three-year degree course at Haskoli Islands. While in study,i I received the divinity from God to serve Him and this demonstrated His dominion over me and the world that had seemingly shut down.
My fervent desire to worship God in the African style of which entails bowing down and praying on all fours.(Matthew 18:1-4), continued to intensify. However, despite attending church every Sunday, I often felt empty inside. This inner void led me to seek God’s guidance through prayer. He brought a few like-minded believers into my life who shared the same longing. Together, we felt a divine urging to worship Him with unrestrained passion, similar to David’s devotion—MORE OF JESUS .The “AWC-Reykjavik” was created through a deeper union with God and under the guidance of His Spirit. Since our first encounter on 22 August 2021 at Hàaleitisbraut 58-60, our relationship has advanced steadily.
